A Growing Number of Online Users

In the Film and TV industry, production accountants are extremely vital to the overall success of a project. For Media Services, production accountants work solely with MediaWeb; an online production accounting platform. With a growing number of online users, MediaWeb began to experience performance issues which included overall speed time and inconsistent bandwidth.

In addition to performance issues, the IT team at Media Services needed additional expertise and advice. Having strict regulations around their software, Media Services leveraged the power of Onica for consulting and guidance on how to maximize their software.

“I was very impressed with the Onica team and services. Onica was able to upgrade our servers in a very short period of time. From ramping up, to building the servers, testing them, and obtaining the license, Onica was very proactive and key to the success of the project.”

Success

As a Premier Consulting Partner to Amazon Web Services (AWS), Onica understood the complexities of Media Services project at hand. Looking for a way to maximize the power of the cloud, Media Services reached out to Onica to migrate their infrastructure from colocation to the cloud. On top of migrating, Media Services was also looking for a top notch consultant to help fully grasp their own software boundaries better. Possessing a team full of AWS Certified Solutions Architects, Onica was able to use our technical expertise and resources to help the development team at Media Services.

Once the databases and applications were migrated, Onica configured a new backup process which Media Services greatly needed. Before AWS and Onica, Media Services back up schedule was set weekly. Now, backups are configured nightly to Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS) Snapshots and Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3). These tools, along with Cloudcheckr and Cloudwatch are used to fully monitor Media Services infrastructure performance and stability.

OUTCOMES

A New Foundation on the Cloud

By completing an audit discovery, Onica dug into Media Services’ current infrastructure to design and build out a new foundation on the cloud. To accommodate the entire MediaWeb workload, Onica’s architects upgraded and provisioned additional servers.

The move alone, according to Media Services own metrics, have cut report times down by 50%.

“Before the transition, our servers had multiple users connected to each individual server. There were issues of speed, performance and inconsistent bandwidth. Once we moved to the cloud, we consolidated and our servers were able to withhold 1100 databases with 500 users. Since the move, we have not had one performance issue generating reports and report times have been cut in half.”
