Tips for AWS re:Invent 2019: A Guide on How to re:Invent like a Pro

AWS re:Invent 2019 is almost here and it keeps getting bigger every year! Offering a variety of programs and events such as keynotes, training and certification opportunities, more than 2500 technical sessions, a partner expo and more, attendees are in for an AWSome experience at re:Invent this year.

Spanning across 6 venues including Bellagio, ARIA, the Venetian Palazzo, MGM Grand, Mirage and the Encore, the re:Invent campus is very spread out, so it is important to bring comfortable walking shoes to relieve the fatigue of walking long distances. December days also tend to be quite cool in the desert region of Las Vegas, so don’t forget to bring a jacket to make sure you are comfortable and warm when getting from one venue to another.

With an estimated 70,000 people expected to be in attendance at this year’s re:Invent, transportation will be quite crowded and busy. There will be shuttles going back and forth but it may take a while to board them and reach your destination. Hence it is important to make sure you build enough time into your schedule so you aren’t rushing to reach the next session.

re:Invent 2019 will feature some high profile keynotes on the state of AWS, new product and service offerings and other announcements. There’s a keynote everyday through the conference, and the two keynotes I’m most excited about are:

Andy Jassy’s Keynote on Tuesday, December 3 at the Venetian, where he will share his insight and the latest news from around the world of AWS customers, products and services.

–  Dr. Werner Vogels’ Keynote on Thursday, December 5 at the Venetian, where he will delve into the technical underpinnings of AWS services and the architectural design investments Amazon is making.

Click here to view the sessions at re:Invent and book your spot for the ones you are interested in. If you are unable to reserve a seat at these keynotes, do not worry! You will also be able to watch them in the following overflow locations:

  • ARIA West  | Level 3  | Juniper 1
  • Bellagio  | Level 1  | Monet 3
  • MGM  | Level 1  | Grand Ballroom 119 and Boulevard 158
  • Mirage  | Level 1  | Events Center C3

The keynotes will be livestreamed as well as recorded. So if you can’t wake up early on these days to secure your spot for the keynotes, you can view them later at your own convenience.

Onica at re:Invent 2019

AI.Magic Hands-on Lab

This year at re:Invent, Onica will have a booth in the Quad at ARIA. Stop by Booth #508 to experience AI.Magic, our hands-on lab activity where participants will have the opportunity to train a magic wand fitted with an accelerometer, to move a wizard through a maze in a video game. If you can complete the lab within 30 minutes, you could win one of our IoTanium devices for development. While walk-in spots are available, pre-register for the lab to avoid the long queues. Go to and you can pick a time slot that works well with your schedule.

IoTanium Cloud

We will also have a separate booth in the AWS Marketplace Experience Hub at the QUAD where we will be showcasing IoTanium Cloud – a collection of AWS CloudFormation resources that make it a lot easier for you to connect your IoT devices to AWS resources. Stop by on Monday, December 2 from 4:00PM to 7:00PM and learn how IoTanium Cloud can support your IoT efforts.

AWS DevChat – “Build a Serverless IoT Platform on AWS”

On Thursday, December 05, Eric Miller, Onica’s Vice President, Customer Solutions Architecture, will be hosting a DevChat at the Developers Lounge at the Venetian Expo Hall from 3:00PM – 3:30PM. So if you’re interested in what you’ve been able to do at our AI.Magic lab, the DevChat would be a great opportunity to dive a little deeper into IoT and even get some Q&A time with Eric.
